What should be the soil for seedlings?
Getting early vegetables is one of the factors contributing to better nutrition. Obtaining such products is possible only when growing high-quality seedlings and observing the following conditions:
- Growing vegetables in high fertility areas
- Ample watering
- Selection of precocious varieties and hybrids
- Preparation of ridges in the fall
- Covering crops or planting in greenhouses
- The use of cassettes when growing seedlings, which accelerates the entry into fruiting by 8-10 days
Growing seedlings reduces weediness, which cannot compete with older plants due to their higher growth rates and multiple inter-row cultivations (weeding, loosening). While seedless crops - onions, root crops, seedling tomatoes and cucumber, grow slowly in the initial stages. As a result, weeds become clogged. Seedlings occupy the site quite late, so they can be planted after crops that leave the field late (late cabbage, root crops), which allows for high-quality cultivation of the soil and weed control.
The basis of high-quality seedlings is the soil in which it is grown. For growing seedlings using multicomponent mixtures. The main components for seedlings are upland and lowland peat, limestone or dolomite flour and complex mineral fertilizer. Low peat, rich in humus and nutrients, high peat gives the necessary porosity, moisture capacity and air exchange, dolomite flour helps to achieve the pH values necessary for vegetable crops, and complex mineral fertilizer provides a high content of nutrients available to plants.
Peat is the best component for seedlings, as it has good physical and mechanical properties. Peat substrates are able to hold a large number of nutrients, so they can be fertilized without fear of getting high salt concentrations and inhibition of plants. Peat does not contain aluminum, plants do not suffer from high acidity.
When preparing the seedling mixture, all components are thoroughly mixed and composted for 4-6 months. At home, getting a quality seedling mixture is quite difficult. That is why it is better to purchase ready-made seedlings for growing seedlings.
An example of such a mixture is the Bogatyr seedlings. Seedling soils Bogatyr "Universal for seedlings" and Bogatyr "For tomatoes and peppers" are created on the basis of milled top and lowland peat, due to which they have a loose structure and optimal physical and mechanical properties for seedlings. They contain natural growth stimulants - humic acids, which increase the immunity of plants, promote seed germination, stimulate a friendly and rapid emergence of seedlings. Soils contain complex mineral fertilizer, which allows not to feed the plants at the initial stages of growth. Soils Bogatyr is used at all stages of growing seedlings.
