Rules for growing graceful godets
Despite its non-resistance, Godetia remains a very popular plant. This summer, the flowering of which is compared either with rhododendrons, then with the roses themselves, offers to enjoy a truly exquisite sight. The beauty and elegance of lush inflorescences-bouquets with simple or double flowers and all kinds of variations of the white-pink palette cannot but conquer. It is not so easy to grow godetia, but the unusual grace of this beautifully flowering soloist more than compensates for this drawback.
Separate botanical genus - Godetia (Godetia) has not existed recently, since it was united with the Clarky clan (Clarkia) Gardeners still call Godetia some species, for example: Clarkia amoena, Clarkia affinis, and Clarkia lassenensisbut from a botanical point of view this is wrong.
In order to enjoy the beauty of the flowering of this summer and not to be disappointed in it, it is necessary to avoid places with cold winds, drafts and strong shade. Godetia needs a sunny, open and warm location and will only accept light shading.
Strict soil selection
The right choice of soil characteristics is the key to success in growing goodets. This plant will not be able to grow normally, much less bloom in any garden soil. Godetsia needs only high-quality, fertile, moist loam. It is not worth growing on sandy and compacted soils. The soil should contain a large amount of nutrients, it is better to improve it before planting.
Note: even having selected the ideal growing conditions for the year, be prepared for the fact that the weather will affect the plants. Godetia is afraid of both excessively hot dry summers and cold rainy. And you can’t compensate for the vagaries of the weather even by leaving.
Godetia can only be propagated by seed. In early May, they can be sown directly in the soil at the place of cultivation, or can be grown through seedlings. The second method is preferred due to poor germination, longer and earlier flowering times.
Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out in April, using loose, high-quality soil. Germinate seeds under glass. As plants grow, they are peaked in individual containers or peat pots. Godetia is afraid of rhizome injuries, so young plants need to try to fully preserve the earthen lump. Goodets are transferred to the soil along with peat pots (or carefully removed from cups with all the soil) as soon as the threats of frost disappear.
The soil needs to be improved from autumn or early spring, long before carrying the seedlings of godetia. The soil is dug twice deeply, covering up a large amount of organic fertilizers and a portion of the full mineral mixture.
The optimal landing distance is from 20 cm for low to 40 cm for high grades. Planting should be carried out very carefully, minimizing injuries to the plant and roots. After planting godetium, abundant watering should begin.
Watering is the main guarantee of the beautiful flowering of godetia and its health. And at the same time the most troublesome item in the care program. This yearbook does not tolerate droughts and does not like the heat too much, but at the same time it reacts no better to the excessive importance of the soil. Irrigation water should be moderate, only to maintain light soil moisture, but they are carried out systematically and quite often.
High soil nutritional value is crucial for godsion. And access to essential plant nutrients can only be achieved if fertilizers are applied on time. Fertilizers for godetia are given with a frequency of from 1 time in 2 weeks to 1 time per month, depending on how fertile the soil is. An excess of nitrogen and other nutrients should also not be allowed, because they stimulate the development of foliage to the detriment of flowering.
For godetia, it is best to use complete mineral fertilizers - special for perennials and flowering plants or nitrophosk in a standard dosage.
Godetsia is all the more affected by diseases and pests, the more they are in a more neglected state. In the soil between plants, in compositions of godetium, weeds cannot be allowed to develop. Regular weeding or mulching of the soil is your choice.
Cutting and tying godetia
Classical haircut and trimming of godetia is not needed. This plant just remove fading flowers in a timely manner. If this is not done, then the flowering time will be reduced, and the plants themselves will lose their grace.
The highest varieties, especially large-flowered ones, are prone to lodging; their bushes are poorly kept in shape. As they grow, such goodets are neatly tied to pegs or other supports.
Pests and diseases of godetia
Under comfortable growing conditions and the level of humidity, godetium can be ranked as fairly resistant plants that rarely get sick. The greatest danger to this flyer is powdery mildew and various rusts. At the first sign of disease, it is better to start spraying with fungicides right away.
With weeds running, godets can be threatened by leaf-eating pests. They are fought with mulching with straw, scattering of wood ash and spraying.
